From Manual to Digital: Don Don’s Journey to Operational Excellence with EDI.

This case study shows how Don Don transformed its business by introducing EDI. This has enabled the elimination of manual tasks and unnecessary paper documents, ensuring efficiency, accuracy and scalability, while paving the way for future innovations in electronic business processes.

EDI Integration

Embracing Digital Efficiency Since 2009

In the first decade of the new millennium, Don Don started to notice that its business processes were becoming increasingly inefficient. This was hampering the speed and accuracy of their operations, so the company started looking for a comprehensive solution. As the company grew in success and expansion, so did the need for optimisation, and in 2009 they introduced Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

Challenges before implementing EDI

Before the introduction of EDI, Don Don faced several key challenges:

  • Manual processes: returning documents, manual processing, handling complaints, errors with delivery notes, return notes and more.
  • Resource constraints: need for additional staff to manage inefficiencies.
  • Late payments: inaccurate and delayed processing of invoices resulted in late payments.

Why EDI and EDITEL/PANTEON GROUP?

Don Don introduced EDI to gain full transparency and control over business processes.

Alenka Mozetič Zavrl, Director and Member of the Management Board of Don Don, added: "The market has recognised the need for EDI and has become accustomed to its effectiveness since its introduction. This in turn convinced other partners to join in."

EDITEL/PANTEON GROUP proved to be the ideal partner with its expertise and experience in implementing seamless EDI solutions.

Concerns about the introduction of EDI

»The transition was smooth, supported by a responsive IT team that ensured problems were resolved quickly«. - Alenka Mozetič Zavrl, Director and member of the Management Board of Don Don

Integration and process improvements

EDI has been fully integrated with Don Don's ERP and other systems, with checkpoints put in place to maintain control over processes.

This has resulted in several tangible improvements:

  • Increased efficiency: faster order processing and less manual work.
  • Fewer errors: significant reduction in documentation errors.
  • Cost savings: move to paperless operations and optimisation of staff numbers.
  • Improved payment accuracy: increased reliability of customer payments.

Everything is set up to work 100%, it's transparent, you can see the differences on the delivery note and it gives you control over the whole process.

Impact on the company's competitiveness

EDI has become an essential tool for Don Don to meet the expectations of large customers who demand electronic business solutions. Without EDI, working with key customers would be almost impossible, which proves its key role in maintaining competitiveness, said Alenka Mozetič Zavrl.

This willingness to adapt has enabled Don Don to expand into different markets - they are currently present in 16 different countries.

Achievements through EDI

  • Automation: streamlined processes with minimum manual intervention.
  • Data accuracy: almost total reliability in document exchange.
  • Fewer errors: dramatic reduction of errors in critical processes.
  • Optimisation with the Pantheon Group's 3S platform: Don Don has successfully implemented the EDI 3S online digital platform with some smaller customers to optimise document exchange without any major investment.

Adapting to growth and market needs

As Don Don expanded into new markets in Croatia and Serbia, its EDI system scaled seamlessly, providing the same level of efficiency and reliability for cross-border business. The flexibility of the solution allowed Don Don to include customers who do not use EDI, thus strengthening relationships and maintaining competitiveness.

With new customers and production facilities, EDI accompanies Don Don in its impressive capacity to produce more than 151,000 tonnes of products per year by 2024.

The vision for the future

Don Don aims to continue to grow its business while simplifying its support services. They intend to increase operational efficiency by further automating tasks and focusing on control. The company also sees potential in expanding EDI for online orders under a dropshipping model and an online marketplace to support evolving business needs.

Cooperation with EDITEL/PANTEON GROUP

  • Reliability: consistent support and flexible solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Mutual benefits: helping partners to implement EDI for mutual efficiency.
  • Global knowledge: leveraging international developments for the benefit of partners seeking to grow across borders.

Next steps and improvements or wishes for the future

Don Don continues to explore opportunities for digitisation, including improved document sharing. The company has also provided constructive feedback on Panteon Group's 3S EDI web platform, which could benefit from mobile adaptation. This would allow Don Don's customers to use the solution in their rapidly changing environment and not be limited to PC-based use.

Message for users who do not use EDI

»Adopt EDI as soon as possible!« commented Alenka Mozetič Zavrl firmly and without hesitation.
